Description

Pack: 10 seeds

Passiflora glandulosa var. is a rare and beautiful Brazilian passionflower from Maranhão, Brazil, offered here from a very limited July pre-sale seed lot.

This species has strong ornamental appeal, with vivid red flowers that stand out immediately, plus attractive pale yellowish fruits when ripe. According to the collector, the fruit has a mild acidity, making it especially interesting for juices and fresh preparations where a brighter, more refreshing passionfruit flavor is desired.

This is not a common commercial passionfruit. It is a little-known collector species, and very few growers currently have access to it. For Passiflora enthusiasts, rare fruit growers, and collectors of unusual edible vines, this is a very interesting opportunity.

Passiflora glandulosa belongs to the family Passifloraceae and grows as a tropical climbing vine. It should be considered a warm-climate species, best suited to tropical and subtropical conditions, or protected greenhouse/container culture in colder regions.

Growing notes

Sow fresh seeds in a warm, humid environment using a well-draining substrate. A mix with coco fiber or peat, perlite, and fine bark or sand should work well.

Keep the substrate lightly moist but never waterlogged. Warmth and stable humidity are important for germination.

Recommended germination temperature: 24–30°C / 75–86°F.

As with many tropical Passiflora species, germination can be irregular and may take several weeks or longer. Freshness, warmth, and patience are key.

Once seedlings are established, grow them in bright filtered light or gentle morning sun. Provide support for climbing growth and protect young plants from cold temperatures.

Collector’s note

This is a rare Brazilian Passiflora with both ornamental and edible potential. Its red flowers make it visually striking, while the mildly acidic fruits may be especially valuable for juices. Best suited for Passiflora collectors, rare fruit growers, and warm-climate growers interested in unusual edible vines.
