Description

Myrciaria sp. “Pirangi” – An Extraordinary Amber-Orange Brazilian Fruit

NEW SEPTEMBER 2026 PRE-SALE RELEASE!

We are delighted to offer a new batch of one of the most visually captivating and unusual Brazilian Myrtaceae in our collection: Myrciaria sp. “Pirangi”, also encountered under the spellings “Pirangy” and “Pyrangi”.

This extremely rare jaboticaba relative is known under an informal collector name, as its precise botanical identity has not yet been fully established.

What makes this accession so remarkable is its spectacular appearance: rounded amber-orange fruits filled with glossy, succulent-looking orange pulp surrounding a large olive-green seed.

It is an extraordinary combination of colors and textures, unlike the appearance of most familiar jaboticabas.

Beautiful Amber-Orange Fruits

Illustration of Myrciaria sp. Pirangi, showing amber-orange fruit and orange pulp

The fruits associated with this accession are remarkable for their warm amber, golden-orange to toasted-orange coloration.

The rounded fruit has a smooth exterior and a distinct dark stylar point. Inside, the orange gelatinous pulp surrounds a comparatively large seed with an unusual olive-green to greenish-brown coloration.

The contrast between the bright orange pulp and the greenish seed gives this fruit a particularly memorable appearance.

Compared with the reddish-copper appearance of our “Vermelha Bahiensis” accession, Pirangi stands out for its beautiful golden-amber tones.

Fresh Seeds – New September Collection

EXCELLENT SEED CONDITION!

Our newly prepared September batch contains firm, heavy seeds in excellent physical condition.

We are particularly pleased with the quality of this material. The seeds feel substantial and healthy, which is very encouraging for such an uncommon tropical fruit accession.

Because this is a rare tropical Myrtaceae, we recommend careful handling, maintaining appropriate moisture, and planting promptly upon arrival.

Germination and Growing Recommendations

Although detailed cultivation information for this particular accession remains limited, the following approach is recommended based on the requirements of other tropical Myrtaceae:

  • Plant promptly after receiving the seeds.
  • Use a moist, airy, well-draining growing medium.
  • Cover seeds lightly, approximately 0.5–1 cm deep.
  • Maintain warm temperatures, ideally around 24–28°C (75–82°F).
  • Provide consistent humidity without waterlogging.
  • Keep young seedlings in bright, filtered light.
  • Avoid drying out the seeds and protect seedlings from frost.

These recommendations are preliminary; germination speed and growing characteristics of this accession have not yet been fully documented.

Botanical Identity

This material is offered as Myrciaria sp. “Pirangi”, retaining the informal name currently used among Brazilian collectors.

The spelling variants “Pirangy” and “Pyrangi” refer to the same collector designation. A definitive species-level identification has not yet been established.

For collectors interested in documenting unusual Brazilian Myrtaceae, this represents a particularly intriguing accession.
