Description

Myrciaria sp. “Pirangi” — also seen written as “Pirangy” or “Pyrangi” — is a very rare Brazilian Myrtaceae, currently known under an informal collection/commercial name rather than a fully clarified botanical identity.

This is one of the most visually attractive rare Myrciaria types from our July batch. The fruits are round, amber-orange to toasted-orange, with a glossy, gelatinous orange pulp surrounding a large olive-green to greenish-brown seed.

The fruit has a very “premium jaboticaba-relative” appearance, but with its own character: more orange/amber than the reddish-copper “Vermelha Bahiensis” type.

Why it is interesting

  • Extremely rare Myrciaria sp. from Brazil.
  • Beautiful amber-orange fruits with glossy orange pulp.
  • Large seed surrounded by juicy gelatinous pulp.
  • Very limited availability.
  • Excellent material for collectors of rare Myrtaceae, jaboticaba relatives, and unusual Brazilian fruit trees.

Fruit description

The fruit shown in the source material has a smooth orange to amber-orange skin, a distinct dark stylar point, and a very juicy-looking orange pulp.

The seed appears large and greenish, giving the cut fruit a striking orange-and-olive contrast.

The exact botanical identity is still not fully confirmed, so we are offering it honestly as Myrciaria sp. “Pirangi”, using the name under which this rare material is currently circulating among collectors.

Fresh recalcitrant seeds

Like most rare Myrtaceae, these seeds should be considered recalcitrant: they do not tolerate drying and should be planted as soon as possible after arrival.

Depending on transit time, some seeds may already be starting to sprout.

Germination advice

  • Sow immediately upon arrival.
  • Use a moist but airy substrate, such as peat/coir with perlite or another well-draining mix.
  • Keep warm, ideally around 24–28°C / 75–82°F.
  • Keep humidity high, but avoid waterlogging.
  • Grow in bright shade or filtered light while young.
  • Never allow the seeds to dry out completely.

Important July batch shipping note

This item belongs to our July Pre-Sale batch.

We strongly recommend ordering July batch seeds together, so they can be shipped in the same fresh-seed shipment.

If you want to combine this item with seeds from other batches, the safest option is to add only dry/tolerant seeds, or to pay for a second shipment. Fresh Myrtaceae seeds may sprout or lose quality if they are held too long waiting for items from another batch.

If your order contains items from different batches, we may contact you to suggest the safest shipping option.

Note

This is a rare collector’s item offered under a working name. Photos and descriptions are based on the source fruits/seeds, but seedling variation is always possible.
