Description
Family: Myrtaceae
Collector name: Araçá dos Andes
Botanical status: Psidium sp.
Origin: sold in Brazil as an Andean Psidium-type araçá
Status: May/June Pre-Sale
Availability: very limited
This is one of the most unusual Psidium-type fruits we have seen recently.
The plant is known by collectors in Brazil as “Araçá dos Andes”. It has a very distinctive appearance, with strongly corrugated, almost sculptural foliage, short internodes, and rounded yellow-green fruits. The plant looks very different from common guavas or standard araçás, making it especially interesting for collectors of rare Myrtaceae.
Taste: similar to cajú.
At this stage, we are offering it honestly as Psidium sp. “Araçá dos Andes”, because the exact botanical identity has not been fully confirmed. The commercial name suggests an Andean origin, but we are not claiming a confirmed species name.
The main value of this plant is its rarity, unusual foliage, and collector appeal. It appears to be a very uncommon Psidium in international cultivation.
Only a small portion of the incoming seeds will be listed.
Pre-sale note:
We recommend ordering this item together with other May/June Pre-Sale items or with dry seeds currently in stock, which are easier to combine with this batch. Fresh wet tropical seeds from different batches may need to be shipped separately to preserve viability.
Germination notes:
Sow in a warm, moist, well-drained substrate. Keep at 24–30°C / 75–86°F, in bright shade or filtered light. Do not let the seeds remain waterlogged. As with many rare Psidium species, germination may be irregular.
