Description
Campomanesia sp. “Black Guabiroba” is an exceptionally rare black-fruited guabiroba-type Campomanesia from Brazil.
This material is especially interesting because of its unusual fruit color: the fruits ripen from green to a deep dark purple/black, with a rounded shape, persistent calyx, and classic Myrtaceae appearance. Black-fruited Campomanesia are rarely seen in cultivation or in the international seed market, making this a very special opportunity for collectors.
The fruits are described locally as very sweet, hence the working name:
Campomanesia sp. “Black Guabiroba” — Super Sweet Black-Fruited Form
For now, we are keeping the identification conservative as Campomanesia sp., since the exact species has not yet been confirmed. Based on the available fruit and foliage images, it clearly belongs within the Campomanesia / guabiroba group, family Myrtaceae, but it should not be treated as a formally identified species yet.
This is collector material for growers interested in rare Brazilian Myrtaceae, unusual Campomanesia, black-fruited native fruits, and possible future selection work.
Main features:
- Rare Brazilian Campomanesia / guabiroba type
- Very unusual black / dark purple ripe fruits
- Reported as super sweet
- Attractive rounded fruits with persistent calyx
- Excellent collector species for Myrtaceae growers
- ID pending — offered under field / collector name
- July pre-sale item
Growing notes:
Sow fresh and do not allow the seeds to dry out completely. Use a well-drained but moisture-retentive substrate, such as peat/coir with perlite, vermiculite, or fine bark. Keep warm, humid, and in bright shade until germination.
Young seedlings should be protected from strong direct sun, drying winds, cold temperatures, and waterlogging. Like many Brazilian Myrtaceae, this species should appreciate moisture, warmth, good drainage, and gradual acclimation to stronger light.
Suggested growing conditions:
- Warm temperatures for germination
- Bright shade / filtered light
- Moist but never swampy substrate
- Good drainage
- Protection from frost while young
- Best suited for tropical, subtropical, greenhouse, or container culture
Taxonomic note:
Sold as Campomanesia sp. “Black Guabiroba”. Exact species identification is pending. The name “Black Guabiroba” is used here as a practical collector / field name based on the fruit type and appearance.
Pre-sale note:
This is a July pre-sale item. Seeds will ship once the July batch arrives, is inspected, sorted, and prepared for shipment from our USA stock.
