Description
Annona aff. edulis – A Rare Sweet Annona from the Brazilian Amazon
This unusual Amazonian Annona comes from Rondônia, Brazil and was selected from seed-source material producing small fruits with remarkably pleasant eating characteristics.
The fruits are approximately 3 cm in size. According to direct collector observations, the pulp is very sweet and juicy.
Very Sweet, Juicy Pulp
The main attraction here is simple: eating quality.
The pulp was directly described as very sweet and juicy, making this a particularly interesting accession for collectors of obscure edible Annonaceae rather than a plant selected only for botanical rarity.
Amazonian Origin
This material originates from Rondônia, in the Brazilian Amazon.
The seed-source tree is reported to be medium-sized, potentially making it more manageable than some of the larger tropical forest fruit trees encountered in rare seed collections.
Taxonomic Note
The exact identification of this accession has not been independently confirmed.
It shows an apparent affinity with Annona edulis and is therefore offered conservatively as Annona aff. edulis. The use of “aff.” indicates taxonomic affinity and should not be interpreted as a definitive species identification.
