Long description:
Ultra Rare: Psidium ganevii — Rare Bahia / Caatinga Guava
Family: Myrtaceae
Scientific name: Psidium ganevii
Origin: Bahia, Brazil
Status: May/June Pre-Sale
Availability: very limited
Psidium ganevii is a rare Brazilian Psidium species from Bahia, associated with dry tropical vegetation such as caatinga and savanna habitats.
This is a very interesting species for collectors of rare guavas, Brazilian Myrtaceae, and dryland fruit species. It is not a common commercial guava and remains very rare in cultivation.
The fruit is reported as a small yellow Psidium-type fruit. The plant is especially interesting because it comes from a drier Brazilian environment, which may make it useful for growers interested in rare Myrtaceae with possible drought tolerance once established.
This is mainly a collector and experimental fruit species, ideal for people who enjoy growing rare Psidium beyond the usual guava types.
Only part of the incoming batch will be listed.
Pre-sale note:
This is a May/June Pre-Sale item. The seeds are expected to travel from Brazil to Argentina soon and should be in our hands in approximately 2–3 weeks, depending on shipping conditions. After that, they will be forwarded to the USA for final distribution.
We recommend ordering this item together with other May/June Pre-Sale items or with dry seeds currently in stock, which are easier to combine with this batch. Fresh wet tropical seeds from different batches may need to be shipped separately to preserve viability.
Germination notes:
Sow in a well-drained substrate with steady warmth. Keep at 24–30°C / 75–86°F, in bright shade. Maintain light, even moisture, but avoid soggy conditions. As with many rare Psidium, germination may be slow or irregular.
