Passiflora spinosa is one of the most unusual and visually striking passionflowers we have offered.
Unlike the familiar flat, radial flowers of many common Passiflora species, P. spinosa belongs to the distinctive Astrophea group and produces elegant orange to orange-red flowers with a completely different tropical appearance.
The flowers are fiery, sculptural, and almost unexpected for a passionflower.
This is the kind of species that immediately stands out in a serious Passiflora collection.
Passiflora spinosa is a wild South American species reported from tropical forest regions of northern and western South America, including parts of Brazil. It is generally described as a woody or liana-like passionflower with orange-red flowers and oblong berry fruits. However, I do not have fruit photos or direct fruit-tasting information from this particular Brazilian seed lot, so I am offering it primarily as a rare ornamental and botanical collector species, not as a selected edible-fruit variety.

Growing Notes
Sow in a warm, humid environment using a clean and well-draining substrate.
A mix based on coco fiber or peat with perlite, fine bark, or coarse sand can work well as a starting point.
Keep the substrate lightly moist, but never waterlogged.
Suggested germination temperature:
24–30°C / 75–86°F
Rare wild Passiflora seeds can germinate irregularly. Some may sprout quickly, while others can take several weeks or longer.
Use bright filtered light after germination and protect young seedlings from cold, drought, and direct harsh sun.
Because this species belongs to the Astrophea group, its growth habit may differ from common edible passionfruit vines, so growers should observe the plant carefully and provide support if needed.
