Description

Passiflora cf. cincinnata is a beautiful Brazilian native passionfruit, commonly associated with names such as maracujá-do-mato and Caatinga passionfruit.

This wild passionfruit is especially interesting because it combines ornamental value with edible fruit use. The flowers are very showy, with purple tones and the classic complex structure that makes Passiflora so loved by collectors. The fruits are round and green when developing, with orange pulp that can be used for juice.

According to the Brazilian collector who provided this material, the juice is strong and tasty. This makes it more interesting than many purely ornamental Passiflora species.

This material is offered as Passiflora cf. cincinnata because the plant appears to match or be very close to Passiflora cincinnata, but it has not been formally identified by a specialist. The photos show the source plant, flowers, fruits, and foliage.

Seed notes

Fresh Passiflora seeds can germinate irregularly, so patience is important. Germination may be faster with fresh seeds, but some seeds can take longer.

Suggested method:

  1. Soak seeds in clean water for 24 hours before sowing.
  2. Sow in a clean, well-drained substrate.
  3. Keep warm, ideally around 25–30 °C.
  4. Keep lightly moist but never waterlogged.
  5. Provide bright shade or filtered light.
  6. Germination may be uneven and can take several weeks or longer.

Important identification note

This material is offered as Passiflora cf. cincinnata. The “cf.” means that the plant appears to match or be close to Passiflora cincinnata, but the identification is not guaranteed as a formal botanical determination.

Seeds are sold for growing, collecting, conservation, and ornamental/fruit exploration purposes only.
