Description
Pack: 10 seeds
Passiflora serratodigitata is a highly distinctive passionflower whose ornamental appeal extends far beyond the flower itself.
Its extraordinary foliage is deeply divided into narrow, finger-like lobes with conspicuously serrated margins, giving the plant a dramatic and immediately recognizable appearance.
Even before flowering, this is not a passionflower that disappears into an ordinary vine collection.
The flowers are equally remarkable, displaying the complex architecture, contrasting colors, and intricate corona typical of the most desirable wild Passiflora species.
The combination of unusual foliage and exotic flowers makes Passiflora serratodigitata especially attractive to serious passionflower collectors and growers interested in rare South American vines.
This offering comes from a limited Brazilian seed collection and forms part of our specially selected Top 10 Premium Passiflora August release.

Fruit note
Although fruit photographs and botanical references exist for this species, I do not have direct tasting information from the mother plant of this particular Brazilian seed lot.
For that reason, Passiflora serratodigitata is being offered primarily as an ornamental and botanical collector species, rather than as a fruit-selected cultivar.
This avoids making unsupported claims regarding sweetness, flavor, fruit size, or productivity.
Growing notes
Sow the seeds in a warm environment using a clean, airy, and well-draining substrate.
A suitable starting mixture can contain:
- Coco fiber or fine peat
- Perlite
- Fine orchid bark or coarse sand
Keep the medium consistently but lightly moist. Avoid saturated or compacted soil, which can reduce aeration and encourage seed deterioration.
Suggested germination temperature: 24–30°C / 75–86°F
Wild Passiflora seeds can germinate irregularly. Germination may begin within several weeks, but some seeds can require considerably longer.
Scarification or soaking may help some growers, although treatments should be gentle enough to avoid damaging the embryo.
After germination:
- Provide bright filtered light
- Protect seedlings from intense midday sun
- Maintain warmth and moderate humidity
- Avoid cold drafts
- Supply climbing support as the vine develops
- Acclimate gradually to stronger sunlight
Growth and germination results naturally depend on seed treatment, temperature, substrate, humidity, and local conditions.
Collector’s note
For me, the special quality of Passiflora serratodigitata is the complete plant.
Many passionflowers only reveal their ornamental value when blooming. This species already attracts attention through its deeply divided, aggressively serrated foliage, and the extraordinary flowers complete the effect.
It is exactly the sort of plant that makes another collector stop and ask:
“What Passiflora is that?”
Photo note
The photographs are reference images of Passiflora serratodigitata and may not show the exact mother plant responsible for this Brazilian seed lot.
Natural variation in flower color, foliage, growth habit, and other characteristics should be expected among seedlings of a wild species.
