Eugenia sp. “Bayensis” is an unusual collector Eugenia from Bahia, Brazil, distinguished by its bright red ribbed fruit, sweet flavor, abundant juicy pulp and naturally compact growth habit.
The source material is immediately attractive. The fruits mature to an intense glossy red, with pronounced longitudinal ribbing and a rounded to slightly elongated shape. Although the fruit can superficially recall a large pitanga, the foliage and overall plant appearance are clearly different.
The name “Bayensis” is being preserved as the source/collector designation for this accession. At this stage, we prefer to list it conservatively as Eugenia sp. rather than force a formal species identification without complete botanical material.
Sweet flavor and abundant juicy pulp
