Description

Eugenia sp. “Amethysta” is a rare Brazilian Eugenia-type Myrtaceae offered under a collector / field name.

This material is especially interesting because of its reported fruit quality: small fruits, around 2 cm, with juicy purple flesh and a very sweet, aromatic flavor. The name “Ametista” refers to the amethyst-like purple coloration of the pulp.

For collectors of rare Eugenia, this is a very attractive species because it combines several desirable traits: unusual purple flesh, sweet aromatic flavor, compact / medium-sized growth, and strong collector appeal as a rare Brazilian Myrtaceae.

We are keeping the identification conservative as:

Eugenia sp. “Amethysta”

The exact botanical species is not yet confirmed, so it is being offered under its collector / field name rather than a formal species name.

Main features:

  • Rare Brazilian Eugenia
  • Purple-fleshed fruit
  • Reported as very sweet and aromatic
  • Small fruits, around 2 cm
  • Excellent collector Myrtaceae
  • Suitable for pots / container culture when young
  • Very limited seed availability
  • July pre-sale item

Growing notes:

Sow fresh. Eugenia seeds should not be allowed to dry out completely. Use a well-drained but moisture-retentive substrate, such as peat/coir with perlite, vermiculite, or fine bark.

Keep warm, humid, and in bright shade until germination. Avoid waterlogging, especially during early root development.

Young seedlings should be protected from strong direct sun, drying winds, cold temperatures, and excessive moisture. Bright shade or filtered light is ideal during the first year.

Suggested conditions:

  • Warm germination temperatures
  • Bright shade / filtered light when young
  • Moist but well-drained substrate
  • No waterlogging
  • Protection from frost
  • Good candidate for container culture

Pre-sale note:

This is a July pre-sale item. Seeds will ship once the July batch arrives, is inspected, sorted, and prepared for shipment from our USA stock.
