Description

Duguetia lanceolata, commonly known in Brazil as Pindaíba or Pindaúva, is a rare and beautiful fruit tree from the Annonaceae family.

It is related to Annona, Rollinia, and other custard apple relatives, but belongs to the fascinating genus Duguetia, a group still rarely seen in cultivation outside Brazil.

The fruit is one of the main attractions of this species: rounded to globose, segmented, and very ornamental, often developing reddish to rusty-red tones when mature. The pulp is edible and described as creamy and pleasant, making this species interesting both for rare fruit collectors and for growers who enjoy unusual Annonaceae.

This is a slow-growing but elegant Brazilian tree, suitable for warm subtropical and tropical climates. It is also interesting as a collector species because Duguetia seeds are not commonly available internationally, and fresh viable seeds are usually seasonal and limited.

GERMINATION AND CARE

Duguetia lanceolata seeds should be treated as fresh tropical/subtropical Annonaceae seeds.

Recommended method:

  • Sow as soon as possible after arrival.
  • Soak seeds in clean water for 12–24 hours before sowing.
  • Sow about 1 cm deep in a well-draining mix.
  • Use a mix such as peat/coir with perlite, fine bark, or sand.
  • Keep warm, ideally around 25–30 °C.
  • Maintain steady moisture, but avoid waterlogging.
  • Bright shade or filtered light is best for young seedlings.
  • Germination can be slow and irregular.
  • Protect young seedlings from frost, intense sun, and drying winds.

Duguetia seedlings may grow slowly at first, so patience is recommended.

IMPORTANT PRE-SALE NOTE

This is part of a July pre-sale batch. Seeds will ship once the material arrives and passes basic quality control.

As with all rare tropical/subtropical Annonaceae seeds, viability depends on freshness, transit time, and proper handling after arrival.
