Description

Duguetia cf. lepidota – A Spectacular Pink and Orange Amazonian Fruit

This extraordinary Amazonian Duguetia comes from seed-source material collected in Rondônia, Brazil.

The fruit is visually exceptional: a strongly textured pink to reddish-pink exterior opens to reveal an intense orange interior composed of numerous tightly arranged fruiting units.

According to direct collector observations, the fruit is very sweet.

Pink Outside, Brilliant Orange Inside

Few rare Annonaceae have fruit morphology this dramatic.

The mature fruit develops a remarkable pink-red surface, while the interior shows vivid orange pulp surrounding numerous elongated seeds.

The contrast is spectacular and is clearly documented in the original seed-source photographs.

Very Sweet Fruit

The seed-source fruit was directly described as very sweet.

This makes the accession especially interesting not only as a botanical curiosity, but also for collectors focused on rare edible Annonaceae with genuine fruit-quality potential.

Amazonian Origin

This material comes from Rondônia, in the Brazilian Amazon.

The directly observed source tree was described by the collector as a relatively small specimen. This observation refers specifically to the source tree and should not be interpreted as a general mature size guarantee for the species.

Taxonomic Note

The original seed-source name arrived with an inconsistent spelling resembling “lepitala” or “leptilata.” Neither spelling is being treated here as a confirmed botanical name.

The fruit morphology, however, shows a strong resemblance to published descriptions of Duguetia lepidota, particularly the pink mature outer surface, orange inner fruit structure and very numerous fruiting carpels.

Because the accession has not been independently determined from complete botanical material, we are conservatively offering it as Duguetia cf. lepidota.

The abbreviation “cf.” indicates a strong comparison with the named species, while acknowledging that the identification remains unconfirmed.
