Description
Family: Myrtaceae
Scientific name: Psidium pulcherrimum
Origin: Bahia, Brazil
Status: May/June Pre-Sale
Availability: very limited
Psidium pulcherrimum is a recently described and extremely rare Psidium species from Bahia, Brazil.
Its name says a lot: pulcherrimum means “very beautiful” or “most beautiful” in Latin. The plant has a delicate, ornamental appearance, with narrow leaves and small reddish fruits. It is very different from common guava and belongs more to the world of rare collector Myrtaceae.
This is not a common fruit crop. It is a rare botanical and collector species, especially attractive for growers interested in unusual Brazilian Psidium, caatinga/ecotonal species, and rare guava relatives.
Very little cultivation information is available, so it should be treated as a rare experimental species. The fruit is small, but the plant has excellent ornamental and collector appeal.
Only part of the incoming batch will be listed.
Pre-sale note:
We recommend ordering this item together with other May/June Pre-Sale items or with dry seeds currently in stock, which are easier to combine with this batch. Fresh wet tropical seeds from different batches may need to be shipped separately to preserve viability.
Germination notes:
Sow fresh in a well-drained but moisture-retentive mix. Keep warm, ideally 24–30°C / 75–86°F, with bright shade and stable humidity. Avoid waterlogging. Rare Psidium species may germinate slowly or unevenly.
