Plinia sp. “Uruçuca” — spectacular cauliflory on a mature Brazilian jaboticaba
Plinia sp. “Uruçuca” is a striking Brazilian collector Plinia circulated under the source/locality name “Uruçuca”. The mature source tree is immediately impressive: a large, pale-barked tree carrying hundreds of developing fruits directly along the trunk and major branches.
This exceptionally strong cauliflorous habit gives the tree a dramatic appearance and makes the accession especially interesting for serious collectors of Plinia, jaboticabas and unusual Brazilian Myrtaceae.
Heavy trunk fruiting from the base into the canopy
The available source photographs show fruit developing densely over substantial portions of the trunk, continuing upward onto large structural branches. The combination of a large mature tree, pale exfoliating bark and intense cauliflory creates a very different visual character from smaller, shrubby Myrciaria-type collector plants.
Young fruits are green and occur directly from old wood, often in dense clusters. On a mature specimen, this produces an extraordinary trunk-fruiting effect extending high into the canopy.
Deep purple-black ripe fruit
As the fruits mature, they develop from green into deep burgundy, dark purple and almost black tones. The ripe fruits are rounded, glossy and immediately recognizable as jaboticaba-type fruit, while retaining the individuality expected from a little-circulated collector accession.
Some fruits show attractive reddish or wine-colored highlights around the shoulder and stem area before becoming fully dark.
Pale translucent, juicy-looking pulp
Opened fruit photographs reveal a pale translucent interior with a moist, juicy appearance. Several relatively large seeds can be seen within the fruit, surrounded by translucent pulp.

For jaboticaba collectors, differences in bark, tree architecture, fruit position, fruit color, pulp structure and growth habit can be just as important as the botanical name itself. This accession offers several of those distinguishing characteristics at once.

This material is offered as Plinia sp. “Uruçuca”, preserving the source designation attached to the plant.
We are deliberately not presenting “Uruçuca” as a formally registered cultivar or as a confirmed botanical species epithet. Until more complete taxonomic documentation becomes available, retaining the working collector name is the most accurate way to represent the material.
Likewise, we prefer not to speculate about flavor, exact mature fruit dimensions or other characteristics that have not yet been confirmed directly from the source.
For serious Plinia and jaboticaba collectors
This is particularly attractive material for growers interested in comparing regional and collector forms of jaboticaba. Its large-tree habit and extraordinary cauliflory contrast strongly with many smaller Myrciaria and compact Plinia accessions.
As with all seed-grown rare fruit material, seedlings are genetically individual. Variation in vigor, mature size, fruit dimensions, pigmentation, seed number, fruiting intensity and other characteristics should be expected.
