Description

Extremely rare collector’s Plinia from Bahia, Brazil, known as Jabuticaba Platina. This unusual jaboticaba-type fruit produces yellow to deep orange fruits, very different from the common purple/black jaboticabas.

Only 3 germinated seeds available from this tiny lot — all already sprouted and ready to plant.

Plinia sp. “Platina”, also known among collectors as Jabuticaba Platina, is an extremely rare and still poorly documented Plinia from Bahia, Brazil.

This is a very unusual jaboticaba-type fruit. Unlike the common dark purple or black jaboticabas, this rare form produces striking yellow to deep orange fruits, with glossy skin, rounded to slightly irregular shape, and juicy orange-yellow pulp.

The fruits are visually stunning and immediately recognizable. Their color alone makes this one of the most distinctive collector Plinia types currently circulating among rare fruit growers.

The foliage is also highly ornamental. The leaves are opposite, glossy, leathery, elliptic to oblong, with a clean central vein and a rich deep-green color. Even as a young plant, it should be attractive for collectors of rare Myrtaceae.

This listing is especially limited: only 3 seeds are available, and all 3 are already germinated. That makes them much more valuable than dry or uncertain seeds, since the buyer is receiving viable, sprouted material ready to be planted immediately.

Because of the extremely small quantity and the germinated condition of the seeds, this is intended for serious collectors of rare jaboticabas, Brazilian fruit species, and unusual Myrtaceae.

Germination & Planting Advice

These seeds are already germinated, so they should be planted immediately after arrival.

Plant each seed in a moist, airy, well-draining substrate, such as peat, coco coir, perlite, fine bark, or a similar mix for tropical Myrtaceae.

Place the germinated seed with the root tip pointing downward or slightly sideways, and cover only lightly. Do not bury it too deeply. Keep the substrate lightly moist, but never waterlogged.

Ideal conditions are warm temperatures around 24–28°C, high humidity, and bright shade or filtered light. Avoid strong direct sun while the seedling is young.

As with most rare Brazilian Plinia, the seeds are recalcitrant and should never be allowed to dry out. Since these are already sprouted, careful handling after arrival is especially important.

In cooler climates, grow in pots, greenhouse conditions, or a protected tropical/subtropical setup.
