Description
Plinia marqueteana — the endangered Brown Jaboticaba
Among rare Brazilian fruit trees, Plinia marqueteana is a particularly compelling collector plant. In Brazil it is known as Jabuticaba Marrom or Jabuticaba Café-com-Leite, a reference to the unusual brownish color of its mature skin. This is an Atlantic Forest Myrtaceae, not the familiar black-fruited common jaboticaba.
Official conservation significance: the species is listed as EN — Endangered by Brazilian flora conservation authorities. That status reflects the rarity of the wild species; it is not a guarantee that individual seedlings are genetically identical to the parent.

Uncommon fruits with an intriguing color
Botanical grower documentation describes brown-to-coffee-colored mature fruits, sometimes reaching approximately 3 cm, and reports the fruit as flavorful and suitable for fresh eating. Ripe fruit and pulp are shown in our photographs. Fruit traits vary naturally with growing conditions and seedling genetics.

This is an exceptional opportunity for rare-fruit collectors interested in preserving and studying little-seen Brazilian fruit trees through living collections. We do not claim worldwide exclusivity or a guaranteed germination rate.

Tree and cultivation
The plant belongs to the jaboticaba group and comes from humid Atlantic Forest habitat. Use a loose, moisture-retentive but well-draining substrate and protect young plants from desiccation, stagnant water and frost. Like other fresh Plinia seeds, sow promptly on arrival.

November 2026 Pre-Sale
This is a pre-sale, not seed already in our U.S. inventory. Each unit purchases ONE fresh seed. Dispatch begins after the reserved seed lot arrives, is inspected, and is prepared for shipment. Transit and inspection can change availability and timing; we do not guarantee a November shipping date.
Conservation reference: Brazilian Botanical Garden / CNCFlora conservation plan (EN). Botanical name is used as in Brazilian conservation sources; international databases vary in nomenclatural treatment.
