Description
Passiflora watsoniana is a rare Brazilian passionflower distinguished by its exceptionally elaborate violet flowers and refined tropical foliage.
The flowers of this particular Brazilian accession are truly spectacular: broad lavender-purple petals surround a dense, feathery corona composed of countless violet, blue-purple and white filaments. The yellow-green reproductive structures rising above the corona create an almost surreal combination of colors and shapes.
The rounded green fruits contain numerous seeds surrounded by translucent pulp. This species is offered primarily as a rare ornamental and botanical collector plant, rather than as a commercial passionfruit variety.
Passiflora watsoniana is an accepted botanical species native to eastern Brazil, with records from northeastern and southeastern regions. It is a climbing vine associated mainly with humid tropical environments.

Its unusual violet coloration is particularly notable because many closely related members of the Kermesinae group are better known for red or deep pink flowers. Established plants may flower repeatedly during the warm growing season under favorable conditions.
Cultivation
Grow in a warm, bright and humid location, preferably with filtered sunlight or protection from the strongest afternoon sun.
Use a fertile but well-draining substrate and provide a trellis, fence or other support for the vine. Maintain regular moisture during active growth, but avoid constantly waterlogged soil.
This is a tropical to subtropical species and should be protected from frost. In colder climates, it can be grown in a large container and moved into a greenhouse, sunroom or other protected location during winter.
Passiflora germination can be irregular. Keep the substrate warm and lightly moist, never saturated. Some seeds may germinate relatively quickly, while others can require considerably more time.
