Description
Rare Orange-Red Amazonian Passionflower
Passiflora quadrifaria is an extraordinary tropical climbing species and a true collector’s Passiflora.
Its large flowers can reach approximately 10 cm in diameter, with vivid orange-red petals and sepals. At the center, four compact rows of dark red corona filaments surround the androgynophore, producing an intense, architectural flower with remarkable depth and symmetry.
The species name quadrifaria refers to these four characteristic rows of corona filaments.
Its fruits are described as pear-shaped and green, marked by darker longitudinal stripes. However, this species is offered primarily for its exceptional ornamental and botanical value rather than as a commercial fruit variety.
Botanical origin
Passiflora quadrifaria is native to the tropical region extending from eastern Bolivia to northern Brazil, where it grows as a vigorous climbing vine in humid tropical environments.
It remains very uncommon in cultivation and is especially desirable among collectors of rare Passifloraceae, Amazonian plants and unusual flowering vines.

Cultivation
This is a genuinely tropical species and should be protected from cold temperatures and frost.
Sow the seeds in a clean, well-draining but moisture-retentive substrate. Maintain warm temperatures, high humidity and bright filtered light. Keep the medium lightly moist, never permanently saturated.
Passiflora seeds may germinate irregularly and should not be discarded prematurely. Fresh seed, stable warmth and patience are important.
Young plants should be provided with a trellis, fence or other climbing support as they develop.
Climate
Recommended for:
- Tropical and warm subtropical climates
- Heated greenhouses
- Protected cultivation in cooler regions
- USDA Zone 10 or warmer
- Serious collectors able to provide consistent warmth
Protect seedlings and mature vines from frost.
