Passiflora kermesina “RED Flower” is one of the most immediately attractive species in our new premium August Passiflora collection.
Its flowers display intense red to crimson coloration, creating a vivid tropical effect that stands apart from the more familiar white, blue, and purple passionflowers commonly seen in cultivation.
This particular seed lot was supplied to us as the RED-flowering form, making it especially interesting for ornamental growers, Passiflora collectors, and breeders working with unusual flower colors.
The plant develops as a tropical climbing vine and can become a striking focal point when allowed to grow over a trellis, fence, pergola, or other suitable support.

This seed lot was supplied under the designation Passiflora kermesina RED Flower.
Because these plants are propagated from seed rather than cloned, some natural variation in flower tone, markings, plant habit and other characteristics may occur among seedlings.
The photographs show the expected appearance of this red-flowering material but should not be interpreted as a guarantee that every seedling will be completely identical to the photographed mother plant.
Fruit note
This species is being offered primarily for its exceptional flowers and ornamental collector value.
I do not have reliable fruit-tasting information from the exact mother plant responsible for this seed lot. For that reason, I am not advertising it as a selected sweet-fruited or commercial edible variety.
Growing notes
Sow in a clean, airy and well-draining substrate.
A suitable starting mixture may include:
- Coco fiber or fine peat
- Perlite
- Fine orchid bark or coarse sand
Keep the substrate lightly and consistently moist, but never saturated or waterlogged.
Suggested germination temperature: 24–30°C / 75–86°F
Wild and collector Passiflora seeds can germinate irregularly. Some seeds may sprout within several weeks, while others may require considerably more time.
Gentle scarification or soaking can sometimes assist germination, but care should be taken not to damage the seed embryo.
After germination:
- Provide bright filtered light
- Protect young seedlings from cold
- Avoid severe drying
- Protect from intense midday sun while small
- Provide climbing support as growth develops
- Acclimate gradually to stronger light
In cooler regions, this tropical passionflower should be grown in a greenhouse, warm conservatory, protected container, or another frost-free environment.

The appeal of this material is immediate: a genuine red-flowering Brazilian Passiflora.
Placed beside more conventional passionflowers, its crimson blooms create a completely different ornamental effect.
