Description
Pack: 10 seeds
Passiflora dolorosa is one of the most exciting species in this July ultra-rare Passiflora lot.
This is a newly described species, formally published in 2025, from Roraima, Brazil. For serious Passiflora collectors, this is exactly the kind of material that almost never appears in cultivation: a recently recognized wild species, still extremely scarce, and with major botanical interest.
Passiflora dolorosa belongs to the family Passifloraceae and is placed within the Distephana group, a lineage that includes several highly ornamental tropical passionflowers. Because this species is so new and rarely available, it should be considered primarily a collector and botanical species rather than a common edible passionfruit.
This limited seed lot is best suited for experienced growers, Passiflora collectors, botanical collections, and anyone interested in cultivating rare Brazilian species before they become widely known.

Growing notes
Sow fresh seeds in a warm, humid environment using a well-draining substrate. A mix with coco fiber or peat, perlite, and fine bark or sand should work well.
Keep the substrate lightly moist but never waterlogged. Warmth and stable humidity are important for germination.
Recommended germination temperature: 24–30°C / 75–86°F.
As with many rare tropical Passiflora species, germination can be irregular and may take several weeks or longer. Freshness, warmth, humidity, and patience are essential.
Once seedlings are established, grow them in bright filtered light or gentle morning sun. Provide support for climbing growth and protect young plants from cold temperatures.
Collector’s note
This is not a common passionfruit. Passiflora dolorosa is a newly described Brazilian species from Roraima and should be treated as a rare botanical collector plant. Very limited availability.
