Description
This is a very rare Myrciaria sp. from Bahia, Brazil, currently offered under the provisional field name “Bahia Penca”.
The fruits are small, round, glossy black to deep purple-black, borne in small clusters along thin fruiting stems. The photos show a very attractive Myrtaceae-type fruit with persistent calyx marks, smooth dark skin, and a pale translucent pulp that looks remarkably similar to the pulp of a true black jaboticaba.
According to the Brazilian collector, this material is native to Bahia and has a jaboticaba-like flavor. Only a very small quantity was collected, and part of the material was kept for planting.
