Original price was: $ 8,90.Current price is: $ 6,90.

Grumixama Amarela is the beautiful yellow-fruited form of Eugenia brasiliensis, a native Atlantic Forest fruit tree. Its glossy golden fruit offers the classic grumixama appeal in a much less common color form. Historical horticultural literature often calls it E. brasiliensis var. leucocarpa, while current Kew taxonomy treats that varietal name as a synonym of E. brasiliensis.

Description

Grumixama Amarela — the yellow-fruited grumixama

Grumixama is one of Brazil’s classic Atlantic Forest fruits, valued both as an ornamental tree and for its edible berries. This collector lot is the striking yellow / golden-fruited form.

Grumixama Amarela — golden-yellow fruits on glossy green foliage

Specialist Brazilian horticultural references describe the yellow form as very similar to the traditional dark grumixama, with an often slightly smaller tree and equally tasty fruit. A Brazilian university botanical garden describes Eugenia brasiliensis fruits as averaging around 2.5 cm, with thick, pale, sweet pulp and color forms including yellow, black and red.

Taxonomic note

The historical name Eugenia brasiliensis var. leucocarpa is still useful in horticulture for the yellow form, but Plants of the World Online currently treats it as a synonym of Eugenia brasiliensis, not as a separately accepted variety. We therefore use “Grumixama Amarela” as the practical collector name.

  • Accepted species: Eugenia brasiliensis Lam.
  • Form: yellow / golden-fruited Grumixama
  • Native range of species: eastern and southern Brazil
  • Fruit quality: highly regarded; yellow form described as equally tasty as dark grumixama
  • Uses: fresh eating, ornamental tree, preserves and desserts
