Description
Eugenia zuccarinii — rare dark-fruited Brazilian Eugenia
This collector accession is offered under the long-used name Eugenia zuccarinii. The actual source photograph shows a smooth, glossy, elongated dark-purple to nearly black ripe fruit.
Taxonomic note: Plants of the World Online currently places Eugenia zuccarinii in synonymy under Eugenia arvensis, an accepted eastern Brazilian shrub or tree. We retain “zuccarinii” in the product name because it remains widely used among rare-fruit collectors and seed growers.

International cultivation reports for material sold as E. zuccarinii describe an ornamental small tree with fragrant flowers and edible fruit, with flavor compared to cherries and dried plums. Because flavor can vary among accessions, those reports are presented as horticultural context rather than a guarantee for every seedling.
- Collector name: Eugenia zuccarinii
- Current accepted taxonomy: synonym of Eugenia arvensis according to Kew
- Origin: eastern Brazil
- Source fruit: glossy dark-purple/black, oval to oblong
- Collector interest: unusual dark fruit, rare in international cultivation
