Description

Based on the available fruit and foliage photos, this appears to be a very attractive dark-fruited Eugenia. The ripe fruits are rounded to slightly flattened, glossy, and deep burgundy to almost black when fully mature, with a persistent reddish calyx. The exposed pulp appears dark red / wine-colored, giving this material strong visual and collector appeal.

The foliage is also attractive, with simple, glossy, leathery leaves and lighter green new growth. This combination of dark fruits, red-toned pulp, and ornamental foliage makes it especially interesting for collectors of rare Brazilian Myrtaceae.

For now, we are keeping the identification conservative as:

Eugenia sp. “Flamingenses”

The exact botanical species is not yet confirmed, so it is being offered under its collector / field name rather than a formal species name.

Main features:

  • Rare Brazilian Eugenia
  • Collector / field name: “Flamingenses”
  • Dark burgundy to almost black ripe fruits
  • Glossy rounded fruits with persistent reddish calyx
  • Dark red / wine-colored pulp visible in fruit photos
  • Attractive glossy foliage
  • Rare edible Myrtaceae with strong collector appeal
  • Extremely limited seed availability
  • ID pending — not sold under a confirmed botanical species name
  • July pre-sale item

Growing notes:

Sow fresh. Eugenia seeds should not be allowed to dry out completely. Use a well-drained but moisture-retentive substrate, such as peat/coir with perlite, vermiculite, fine bark, or similar.

Keep warm, humid, and in bright shade until germination. Avoid waterlogging, especially during early root development.

Young seedlings should be protected from strong direct sun, cold temperatures, drying winds, and stagnant wet soil. Gradually acclimate to stronger light as they grow.

Suggested conditions:

  • Warm germination temperatures
  • Bright shade / filtered light while young
  • Moist but well-drained substrate
  • No waterlogging
  • Protection from frost
  • Good candidate for container culture and greenhouse growing

Taxonomic note:

Sold as Eugenia sp. “Flamingenses”. Exact species identification is pending. This is a collector / field name used for rare Brazilian Eugenia material.

Pre-sale note:

This is a July pre-sale item. Seeds will ship once the July batch arrives, is inspected, sorted, and prepared for shipment from our USA stock.
