Description
Eugenia conchalensis Red is one of those obscure species that instantly grabs attention from serious collectors. Specialty descriptions identify it as a very rare and little-known Brazilian species, a compact shrub usually around 1 to 2 meters tall, with an underground xylopodium and multiple stems from the base — a very interesting growth habit for container culture and collectors of cerrado-type fruit species.
What makes it even more exciting is the fruit description: delicious and aromatic, with a flavor recalling grapefruit plus cashew, and notes that it can be eaten fresh or used for juices, ice cream, and even fermented drinks. That is not your average Eugenia flavor profile at all — this is exactly the kind of fruit that makes collectors obsessed with obscure Brazilian Myrtaceae. 🍹✨
This species is known in several forms, including Pêra (pear-shaped), Red, Yellow, and Purple. We currently offer the Red form.
The plant has a low, shrubby growth habit, making it especially appealing for collectors with limited space, container growers, or anyone interested in unusual Eugenias with strong ornamental and fruiting potential.
Flavor varies somewhat between forms. The Pêra form is said to have a flavor reminiscent of green apple, while the other forms — including the Red — show a pleasant balance of acidity and sweetness, with a sweet finish. That makes this species especially interesting not only as a collector’s plant, but also as a fruit with personality and diversity within the species.
A rare Eugenia with multiple color forms, compact size, and distinctive flavor expression — exactly the kind of species that makes a serious Myrtaceae collection more exciting ✨
Germination & cultivation:
Fresh seed is best. Sow on arrival in a warm, fast-draining substrate and keep humidity consistent without overwatering. Because of its shrubby habit and underground reserve structure, this species looks especially promising for growers interested in unusual, manageable Eugenias for pots or protected ground culture.
Important pre-sale note:
⚠️ This is a May/June pre-sale item. For best handling, we recommend combining it with:
- dry seeds currently in stock in USA
or - other wet seeds from April or May/June pre-sales.
We do not recommend combining this item with current wet in-stock USA Plinia / Eugenia seeds, since sending wet pre-sale seeds together is usually the safer option for condition and timing.
