Description
Campomanesia lineatifolia, also known as Chamba / Champa / Palillo, is a rare and highly appreciated fruit species from tropical South America. It is native to warm, humid regions from western/northern Brazil through Peru, Colombia and Ecuador, and the fruit is considered one of the nicest in the genus, aromatic and well suited not only for fresh eating, but also for juices, jellies, marmalades and desserts.
This is a species for collectors who enjoy growing something genuinely uncommon and worthwhile. The tree is evergreen and can reach a medium size under good conditions, with handsome foliage and excellent tropical fruit potential. In its native range, the fruit is well regarded and the species has been recommended for increased cultivation value.
Germination & cultivation:
Fresh seed is strongly recommended. Sow in a warm, humid environment in a very well-drained medium, and keep moisture steady without waterlogging. Chamba is known to be slower and less straightforward to germinate than easier species, and published work notes both low germination percentage and a long germination period; light has also been shown to positively influence germination. Patience is part of the game with this one — but it is absolutely worth it. 🌱 Our seeds are very fresh, some of them are sprouting right now!
Important pre-sale note:
⚠️ This is a May/June pre-sale item. For best handling, we recommend combining it with:
- dry seeds currently in stock in USA
or - other wet seeds from April or May/June pre-sales.
We do not recommend combining this item with current pre-April wet in-stock USA Plinia / Eugenia seeds, since matching shipping timing with other pre-sale wet seeds is usually safer for quality and condition on arrival. In any case, you can make two orders. Thanks
