Description

This material was described by the collector as producing very large fruits with excellent flavor and very fast growth. Because the exact botanical identity still needs further study, we are offering it cautiously as Psidium aff. cauliflorum rather than under a fully confirmed species name.

For collectors of rare Psidium species, this is a very interesting opportunity. Psidium species often combine ornamental value, edible fruit quality, and adaptability to subtropical conditions, and some can grow much faster than many rare Myrtaceae such as Plinia or Myrciaria.

This selection is especially promising because of the combination of large fruit size, good flavor reports, and fast growth.

SHIPPING / PRE-SALE NOTE

This is a July Pre-Sale item. Seeds are expected to be shipped first to the USA and then distributed from there. Estimated USA availability: July, depending on seed arrival, inspection, and condition.

As with all rare fruit seeds, freshness is important. Seeds will be packed with moisture control to help preserve viability, but germination cannot be guaranteed due to natural variability and transit conditions.

GERMINATION SUGGESTION

Sow fresh in a well-draining but moisture-retentive substrate. Keep warm, humid, and in bright shade. Avoid allowing the seeds to dry out completely, but do not keep them waterlogged.

Suggested conditions

  • Temperature: 24–30°C / 75–86°F
  • Light: bright shade or filtered light
  • Substrate: airy, slightly acidic, moisture-retentive
  • Moisture: evenly moist, never waterlogged
  • Germination: unknown, but treat as a fresh rare Psidium seed

COLD TOLERANCE NOTE

Cold tolerance is not yet confirmed. Many Psidium species can be more adaptable than strictly tropical Myrtaceae, but young seedlings should be protected from frost. Once established, this material may have potential for warm subtropical climates, but this still needs to be tested.
