Description

This is not a mild, cherimoya-like or biribá-like Annona. According to our Brazilian collector, who knows the fruit firsthand, Marolo has a very intense, buttery, highly perfumed and deeply sweet flavor, strongly reminiscent of the unmistakable aromatic world of pequi and other emblematic Cerrado fruits. It can even feel almost overwhelming to some palates — a true love-it-or-hate-it fruit, adored by those who enjoy bold, characterful flavors.

Its pulp is rich, dense and aromatic, with a personality unlike any common dessert Annona. While it may be enjoyed fresh, Marolo truly shines in preparations that embrace its power: our collector describes it as spectacular in ice cream and creamy fruit drinks, where its sweetness, perfume and buttery depth become especially impressive. In Brazil, the pulp is also traditionally used in sweets, juices, jams, yogurts, liqueurs and frozen desserts.

This is not a casual fruit — it is a Cerrado flavor experience, rare, intense and unforgettable.

Long-Term Pre-Sale Notice

This offering is part of a long-term pre-sale.
Seeds will be carefully selected and shipped during May–June, aligned with optimal post-harvest handling and viability standards.

Cultivation Notes

From a cultivation standpoint, Marolo stands apart within the Annona genus. Native to the seasonally dry Brazilian Cerrado, it is adapted to strong sun, pronounced dry periods and challenging native soils once established. Young plants, however, deserve careful protection and steady attention during their early development.

It is especially recommended for collectors interested in rare Cerrado genetics, unusual Annona species, and fruit trees with both botanical and culinary significance.

Germination Notes

Marolo seeds deserve patience. Annona crassiflora is known for pronounced seed dormancy, and germination may be slow, uneven and less predictable than in more familiar tropical Annonas. Fresh post-harvest handling is still important, but growers should understand that this is a species that rewards persistence rather than haste.

Recommended for

  • Advanced collectors of rare fruit species
  • Botanical gardens and curated collections
  • Growers interested in Cerrado-adapted genetics
  • Annona enthusiasts seeking something genuinely different
  • Collectors drawn to unusual, high-impact flavor profiles

Important Ordering Guidance

As a long-term pre-sale item, Marolo seeds are best ordered alongside other May–June pre-sale selections, or combined with dry seed stock currently available within the USA.

We do not recommend combining this item with moist or recalcitrant seeds already in U.S. stock when extended holding periods may be involved, as their viability can decline over time.

Marolo represents a rare convergence of wild Cerrado ecology, culinary intensity and collector value — a fruit that does not imitate other Annonas, but stands entirely on its own.
