Garcinia sp. “Rarissima” — very sweet yellow fruit from Bahia’s Atlantic Forest

This unidentified Garcinia was found deep inside the Atlantic Forest of Bahia, Brazil. According to the collector, the yellow fruits measure approximately 6–8 cm and contain a generous amount of pleasantly sweet pulp.

The fruits were observed with generally one seed, while the known plants were approximately 2.5 meters tall. No large trees were found at the collection site.

The exact botanical species has not yet been established. It is offered under the provisional collector designation Garcinia sp. “Rarissima”.

The observed compact stature and single-seed fruits are field observations from the known source plants. Seed-grown descendants may naturally vary and are not guaranteed to remain at an exact height or produce identical seed counts.

Germination and early care

Fresh Garcinia seeds are moisture-sensitive and should be sown promptly after arrival rather than intentionally dried.

• Plant in a loose, organic and well-draining substrate.
• Keep the medium evenly moist, but never permanently saturated.
• Maintain warm conditions, approximately 24–30°C / 75–86°F.
• Use bright filtered light and protect emerging seedlings from intense afternoon sun.
• Provide humidity together with regular air circulation to reduce fungal problems.
• If germination has already begun, handle the emerging root very carefully.

Germination time and seedling behavior may vary because this is an unidentified wild accession.
