Eugenia sp. “Pendudicdifruta” is a rare Brazilian fruit accession from the Atlantic Forest of Bahia.
This material produces fruits averaging approximately 6 cm, placing it among the larger-fruited Eugenia accessions in our August collection.
The fruit is described as juicy and succulent, with a flavor directly compared to canistel.
That unusual flavor association immediately caught our attention.
Canistel is known for its distinctive sweet tropical character, and finding a rare Atlantic Forest Eugenia with a similar flavor profile makes this accession especially interesting for collectors focused on unusual fruit genetics.
Juicy pulp and unusual tropical flavor
The Brazilian collector who directly tasted the seed-source material described the fruit as succulent.
The pulp is also described as juicy, while the flavor reminded him of canistel.
This is not being presented as an exact flavor duplicate of canistel. Flavor comparisons are naturally subjective.
However, the comparison comes from direct tasting of the actual collected fruit and provides a useful description of its unusual eating quality.
Approximately 6 cm fruits
Fruits are reported to average approximately 6 cm.
For a rare unidentified Eugenia, this is already a highly attractive characteristic.
Combined with the juicy pulp and canistel-like flavor description, the fruit has a very different profile from many smaller or strongly acidic wild Eugenia species.
A rare Atlantic Forest accession
This material originates in the Atlantic Forest of Bahia, Brazil.
It represents difficult-to-obtain collector material that had been followed in the field before the present collection became available.
Rare Atlantic Forest fruit species can be extremely inconsistent in availability. A productive collection in one season does not necessarily mean that the same material will return to the seed market regularly.
For this reason, we are maintaining this accession separately under its working name “Pendudicdifruta”.
Why we are using a working name
The exact scientific species identity has not yet been conclusively resolved.
We therefore prefer to offer the material honestly as Eugenia sp. “Pendudicdifruta” rather than assign an unsupported botanical name.
The working accession name is being preserved so that this particular seed-source material remains traceable and distinct from other unidentified Eugenia collections.
This should not be interpreted as a formally described cultivar or confirmed botanical species name.

Germination & Care
Fresh Eugenia seeds should be planted as soon as possible after arrival.
Use a moist, organic, loose and well-aerated growing medium with excellent drainage.
Keep the medium consistently moist but never permanently waterlogged.
Do not allow fresh Eugenia seeds to dry completely.
Warm conditions and bright indirect light or partial shade are recommended during early development.
Fresh Myrtaceae seeds may occasionally begin germinating during storage or transportation.
A seed arriving with an emerging root is alive and should be planted immediately.
Handle emerging roots carefully and avoid unnecessary manipulation.

We prefer to preserve the original accession under a working name rather than force an uncertain species identification.
