This extraordinary new Eugenia accession comes from a highly localized restinga habitat in Bahia, Brazil, close to an area where river and sea meet. Flavor reportedly reminiscent of “laranja da ilha,” a Brazilian sweet orange known for its mild, juicy, very low-acid flavor.
New information received from our Brazilian network of collectors, guides and field contacts reveals that this material is considerably more remarkable than we initially understood.
The golden fruits may reach approximately 11 cm, are described as very sweet, and grow on source plants observed as relatively small trees or large shrubs.
According to the available field information, this accession is known from only one collection location.
A recent visit to the source population documented approximately 69 fruits still maturing. Fully ripe fruits begin to wrinkle slightly, indicating that they have reached their best stage of maturity.
Why this discovery is so important
Large-fruited Eugenias are always highly desirable, but the combination found in this accession is particularly unusual:

Origin and natural habitat
The source population grows in a restinga environment in Bahia, within a coastal ecosystem associated with sandy soils and Atlantic influence.
Our field contacts describe the collection area as relatively cool for coastal Bahia and situated near the meeting of river and sea.
This habitat information helps document the provenance of the accession, but it should not be interpreted as proof of salt tolerance, flood tolerance or exceptional cold resistance. These characteristics have not yet been formally tested in cultivation.

Critical accession distinction
This product is the new Bola de Ouro accession native to Bahia.
It is not the earlier highland material from Minas Gerais, which is now correctly maintained under the name Bola Dourada.
It is also being preserved separately from the related-looking Brijida and Marunhins accessions.
Although these fruits may share certain visual characteristics, they come from different source material and must remain clearly separated in cultivation records.
Identification status
The exact botanical species has not yet been confirmed. For this reason, the plant is being offered honestly and conservatively as Eugenia sp. “Bola de Ouro” — Bahia accession.
“Bola de Ouro” is the field and collector name associated with this particular material. It should not yet be treated as a formally described botanical species or cultivar.
Seed-grown plants may show natural variation in fruit size, color, flavor, growth habit and other characteristics.
Please preserve the complete accession name — Bola de Ouro, Bahia — in cultivation records so that this material is not confused with Bola Dourada from Minas Gerais or with other large golden Eugenias.

Final availability and shipping timing depend on fruit maturation, the number and condition of seeds actually collected, transport to Argentina, phytosanitary preparation, inspection and international logistics.

Germination and early care
Fresh tropical Myrtaceae seeds should be planted promptly and should not be intentionally dried.
- Sow shallowly in a loose, organic and well-draining medium.
- Keep the substrate consistently moist, but never stagnant or waterlogged.
- Maintain warm conditions, ideally around 24–28°C / 75–82°F.
- Provide bright shade or filtered light during germination and early growth.
- If a seed arrives already rooted, position the root carefully downward without bending or breaking it.
- Protect young seedlings from intense afternoon sun, cold wind and frost.
- Increase direct sunlight gradually as the seedlings become established.
