Description

Eugenia acutata — rare red pear-shaped form from Minas Gerais

This rare red-fruited, pear-shaped form of Eugenia acutata comes from the forests of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The collector describes it as the most desired form and reports that it is difficult to locate in its native habitat.

Its flavor differs slightly from the Orange forms: it is described as sweet with a light, pleasant acidity. Shrubby plants have been observed, and the collector reports that it can be cultivated in containers.

Fruit and plant characteristics

  • Fruit form: Piriformis — pear-shaped.
  • Fruit color: Red.
  • Reported flavor: Sweet with mild acidity.
  • Source region: Forests of Minas Gerais, Brazil.
  • Observed habit: Shrubby plants reported.
  • Container culture: Reported as possible by the collector.

Collector and identification note

The designation follows the collector’s identification and the distinctive fruit form. The claim that it is the most desired form is presented as collector information, not as an independently measured market ranking.

Seed-grown plants may vary in vigor, mature size, fruit shape and flavor. Container cultivation does not guarantee that a plant will remain permanently dwarf.

Why this form is special

  • Rare red pear-shaped fruit.
  • Sweet flavor balanced by light acidity.
  • Difficult-to-find Minas Gerais material.
  • Potential for protected container cultivation.
  • Excellent comparison accession alongside the Orange forms.

September 2026 pre-sale

⚠️ SEPTEMBER 2026 PRE-SALE ITEM

This listing belongs to our September 2026 Brazilian rare-seed collection. Orders containing September pre-sale items will be prepared with the corresponding September batch.

Final availability and shipping timing depend on fruit maturation, the number and condition of seeds actually collected, transport to Argentina, phytosanitary preparation, inspection and international logistics.

Only a limited initial quantity is being released. If the final viable quantity is lower than expected, orders will be fulfilled according to payment date and any unfulfilled portion will be refunded.

Germination and early care

Fresh tropical Myrtaceae seeds should be planted promptly and should not be intentionally dried.

  • Sow shallowly in a loose, organic and well-draining medium.
  • Keep the substrate consistently moist, but never stagnant or waterlogged.
  • Maintain warm conditions, ideally around 24–28°C / 75–82°F.
  • Provide bright shade or filtered light during germination and early growth.
  • If a seed arrives already rooted, position the root carefully downward without bending or breaking it.
  • Protect young seedlings from intense afternoon sun, cold wind and frost.

Germination cannot be guaranteed because viability is affected by natural variation, maturity, handling, transit time and the buyer’s growing conditions.

The rare red pear-shaped form: sweet, lightly acidic and among the most sought-after Eugenia acutata selections reported by the collector.
