Giant wild jaboticaba-type fruit from Espírito Santo

This accession was supplied as Plinia sp. “Gigante do Espírito Santo”. Clayton reports it as native to forest near Vitória, Espírito Santo, roughly 4 km from the sea.

• Fruit size: around 5 cm
• Ripe fruit: black
• Skin: edible
• Flavor: described as extremely sweet
• Origin: wild Espírito Santo material near the Atlantic coast
• Precocity: young plants observed in Espírito Santo were already producing fruit

Taxonomic caution: we are intentionally keeping this as Plinia sp. It should not be automatically assigned to Plinia spiritosantensis, P. renatiana or another formal species solely because of geography.
