Description
Description
Psidium ubatubense is one of the rarest guava relatives in cultivation. Native to the Brazilian Mata Atlântica (Atlantic Forest), it is a species that almost never appears in the seed trade.
When seeds have appeared, they tend to sell out quickly because collectors in Brazil and abroad consider it one of the most interesting wild Psidium species.
The fruits ripen to a light pink to orange color, and people who have tasted them report excellent flavor with a balanced sweet-and-sour profile — refreshing, aromatic, and very pleasant.
Among wild guavas, this species is also notable for producing relatively large fruits compared to many other Atlantic Forest Psidium species, making it especially attractive for growers interested in unique edible fruits.
For collectors of rare Myrtaceae and unusual guavas, this is a very exciting species to grow.
