Description
Chrysophyllum sp. “Piranga” is an extraordinary and little-known Brazilian Sapotaceae collected from a native population in Bahia, Brazil.
The fruits are large, rounded, and reddish-brown when mature, opening to reveal a spectacular deep crimson-red pulp surrounding several large, glossy seeds. The intense pulp color alone makes this material visually exceptional among rare tropical fruits.
According to the Brazilian source, the fruit is very sweet, including both the pulp and the skin. The source also reports vigorous growth and relatively fast entry into production. Because the exact botanical identity has not yet been confirmed, this material is conservatively offered as Chrysophyllum sp. “Piranga”, using its field / collector name.
The name “Piranga” refers to the striking reddish coloration of the fruit and pulp. It should be understood as a field name rather than a formally published botanical species name.

Taxonomic note:
The identification remains provisional. The fruit and seed morphology are consistent with Sapotaceae and the material was supplied as Chrysophyllum sp. “Piranga”. Until flowering material, herbarium material, or a formal botanical determination becomes available, it should not be treated as a formally described Chrysophyllum species.
