Description
Pack: 10 seeds
Passiflora echinasteris is one of the rarest and most exciting species in this July ultra-rare Passiflora lot.
This extraordinary Brazilian passionflower was formally described in 2015 from the Amazonian region of Pará, Brazil, near the Great Curve of the Xingu River. It belongs to the family Passifloraceae and is part of the remarkable diversity of wild Brazilian Passiflora still barely known in cultivation.
The flower is truly unusual. The name echinasteris refers to the distinctive structure of the corona, which resembles a starfish of the genus Echinaster. This gives the flower a strange, sculptural appearance unlike most common passionflowers.
Besides its ornamental value, the original botanical description reports fruits with whitish pulp and a sweet flavor resembling mango, making this species especially interesting for both rare fruit growers and serious Passiflora collectors.
This is not a common commercial passionfruit. It is a very rare botanical collector species from the Brazilian Amazon, offered in extremely limited availability.

Growing notes
Sow fresh seeds in a warm, humid environment using a well-draining substrate. A mix with coco fiber or peat, perlite, and fine bark or sand should work well.
Keep the substrate lightly moist but never waterlogged. Warmth and stable humidity are important for germination.
Recommended germination temperature: 24–30°C / 75–86°F.
The original published description reported fast development under cultivation, but as with many rare tropical Passiflora species, germination can still be irregular. Freshness, warmth, humidity, and patience are important.
Once seedlings are established, grow them in bright filtered light or gentle morning sun. Provide support for climbing growth and protect young plants from cold temperatures.
Collector’s note
This is a true collector’s Passiflora: recently described, Amazonian, extremely rare, highly ornamental, and reportedly producing sweet mango-like fruit. Best suited for experienced growers, Passiflora collectors, botanical collections, and rare fruit enthusiasts.
